The 2nd Annual Push Up 4 Parkinson’s returns to Sunset Beach October 10 — but the community behind it is active all year long.

Few short weeks from now, Sunset Beach Town Park will fill with individuals and families, caregivers, volunteers, local organizations — and yes, quite a few people doing pushups.

But the 2nd Annual Push Up 4 Parkinson’s is about much more than the pushups.

On October 10, our community will come together to raise awareness, share resources and create connections for individuals and families affected by Parkinson’s disease.

And you don't have to do a single pushup to be part of it.

The event welcomes people living with Parkinson’s, caregivers, family members, friends, volunteers and anyone who simply wants to learn more or support this local community.

The Community Doesn't Stop on October 10

One of the things we love discovering at Brunswick Beaches Beat is what happens quietly in our community all year long.

Push Up 4 Parkinson’s may be the event many people recognize, but behind it is something even bigger — a growing local Parkinson’s community built around education, awareness, resources and connection.

Throughout the year, individuals living with Parkinson’s and the people who love and care for them have opportunities to connect with others who understand some of the challenges that come with the disease.

And one of those opportunities happens right here in Sunset Beach every month.

Did You Know There's a Monthly Parkinson’s Support Group in Sunset Beach?

The Parkinson’s Community Support Group gathers monthly at Seaside United Methodist Church.

These aren't formal, intimidating meetings. They’re relaxed, welcoming gatherings where people can listen, ask questions, learn something useful and spend time with others in the community.

The group is open to:

Individuals living with Parkinson’s • Caregivers • Spouses • Family Members • Friends

Everyone is welcome.

The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office will be joining the Parkinson’s Community Support Group this month for a conversation that can be helpful for all of us.

They'll talk about scams, what to watch for and practical ways to help protect yourself and the people you care about.

And knowing this group, there may even be a few pushups involved before the afternoon is over!
